Creating Community Around a Flock of Sheep

During Colonial times early towns and villages had what was called a Sheep Common! This referred to the shared ground, usually near the center of town, where neighbors could graze their sheep. A flock and the seasonal routines attached to it brought people together. The seasons were defined by breeding, shearing, spinning wool, tanning skins, preserving meat, and lambing. A flock of sheep offered security, but.it also connected a community.

Is it possible in this day and age for a flock of sheep to connect people? We believe it is. By sharing the story of where your meat, wdol and sheepskins come from, how the animals are fed and cared for, and by sharing pictures and stories that will connect you to the cadence of shepherding, we hope to give your family a chance to feel closer to the natural cycles that should be at the foundation of ethical food production. What began with only a few sheep and a small group of families has grown into a flock of a hundred sheep and the ability to touch many more lives. We encourage you to give your family the gift of understanding where their food somes from and the practicas and sacrifices made to place it on the table. At Firefly Hollow Farm we believe this is a critical step in protecting our planet and our health.

Quality Family Trail Horses

Firefly Hollow Farm uses horses as often as possible to manage the flock (more because we love it then because its practical!).

Horses have been a part of our lives for as long as we can remember, and we fully appreciate how they can enrich the family farm experience. Only occasionally do we have a family friendly. comfortable on the farm, trail horse available, but when we do they are special. If your family farm is interested in such an addition, feel free to contact us.
